HP Mini 311- Review

Posted on January 12th, 2010 | by admin

With the popularity of netbooks that was initially spearheaded by Asus, Hewlett-Packard has since joined the foray and came up with its own entry into the competition: the HP Mini 311.

Like all other netbooks, the HP Mini 311 is designed solely to be a mobile computer platform. In order to qualify as such, a netbook must be small and light. However, it also must have the necessary functionalities that the user will need like connectivity to the Internet and raw processing power that will allow him to run programs necessary for graphic and video editing as well as basic applications.

Most people will probably think that functionality will be partly sacrificed because of the available space for components inside the netbook, but that is not the case with the HP Mini 311.

The Asus EEE PC 901 was featured as ranking fifth on our list of Top 5 Netbooks for 2009. The Asus Eee PC 901 comes with a small but nice looking 8.9-inch display boasting a 1024 x 600 resolution. A 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor sits at its command center to handle its processing needs. There is a 1 GB of RAM (DDR2) to work around as well as 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features. This Asus also has three USB ports, an integrated Ethernet, a webcam and stereo speakers.

In our Top 5 Netbooks review, we noted that the Asus Eee PC 901 offers snappy performance and great battery life. It is a budget notebook with features found in its more expensive counterparts. We certainly like its gesture-compatible mouse controls and the availability of 802.11n Wi-Fi.

Samsung N120 – Review

Posted on January 6th, 2010 | by admin

samsung-n120-netbook

In this review we take a look at the Samsung N120 netbook – a 10.1-inch model that we think is one of the lightest in its class. The Samsung N210 is not your average netbook and a look at the price tag will quickly tell you that. Yes, it is pricey and that’s for a reason, read on and find out why.

When Asus broke grounds by introducing the Eee PC netbook series in 2007, it set the criteria on what defines a winning netbook – small, light, loaded with basic computing features and affordable.

As the netbook market evolves, we see niches sprouting within that market itself. Consumers are fervently dictating the features they want to see in a netbook and manufacturers are just as eager to please them. There are now netbooks that can operate for very long hours on a single charge, netbooks that can take on multi-media tasks, and netbooks that are designed for the higher end consumer.

Lenovo Ideapad S10 – Review

Posted on January 5th, 2010 | by admin

lenovo_ideapad_s10_2

When the Asus EeePC netbook came into the market about 2 years ago, it captured the hearts of many buyers who were attracted to its combination of low price, light weight, Linux OS and a solid-state drive. The Asus EeePC’s very strong sales performance drove the competitors to come up with their own versions of budget-priced netbooks. All of a sudden, the market was flooded with netbooks – small, light and inexpensive — with the ability to do general computing, web surfing and running rich Internet applications.

The IdeaPad S10 is Lenovo’s unabashed attempt to cash in on the netbook boom. A quick look at the S10’s features and you would immediately conclude that it used EeePC as its benchmark. A YouTube review of the S10 even called it an “EeePC killer.” The IdeaPad S10 comes in a range of hues – black, red, blue, white and pink and features a 10.2-inch display. Processing power is supplied by Intel Atom 1.6GHz and RAM capacity is between 512MB up to 1GB DDR2. This netbook comes with two USB ports and ExpressCard expansion slot and VGA output. A multi-card media reader (4-in-1) is also thrown in as an added feature. OS is Windows XP Home Edition.

Acer Aspire One AO751h – Review

Posted on January 3rd, 2010 | by admin

Acer_AO751H

The Aspire One AO751h came about with the popularity of netbooks spearheaded by Asus with its EEE PC. Acer offers this 11.6-inch Aspire One AO751h. Let us take a close look at what this little netbook has to offer its buyers.

The Aspire One AO751h is powered by a member of the Intel Atom series of processors made specifically for netbooks. The Aspire One AO751h has the Z520, which is clocked to have a processing speed of 1.3 GHz. While it is certainly slower than most minis in its price range and class, it has sufficient power for it to be able to do normal tasks without a problem. This 11-incher offering from Acer is backed by a memory of at least 1 gigabyte, but this can be upgraded to 2 gigabytes. This combination is more than enough to allow multi-tasking with ease.

As for design, the Aspire One AO751h is very slim and, as a result, it is very convenient to carry around. It would not require much space and could be stuffed into luggage provided you give it enough cushioning. This saves you the burden of having to carry an additional bag to store it in.

dell-mini-10

Many consider the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 a bit overpriced as this netbook belongs to the upper price bracket of more than $500. We agree that it maybe a little bit more expensive than its rivals but let us examine what it offers.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is the younger brother of the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 and one of the top 5 must have netbooks of 2009. They look practically the same, except that this 10-incher has a sleeker look that its predecessor. The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 has a box dimension of 10.3 x 7.2 x 1.3 inches, and weighs only 2.6 lbs. It is really amazing how Dell was able to pack a TV antenna and a tuner into this little box.

This netbook is not only sleek and light, but also sports a fabulous design. The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 is very compact with rounded lids and black glossy finish. Its compact design allowed Dell to cast a roomy keyboard, with some important keys retaining their full sizes. This mobile thinking chic comes in four other colors – white, green, pink and blue.
